The Wine Independent Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 29 Dec 22
In 2017, the Perse family acquired new blocks on the plateau with younger vines but these only became dedicated blocks for this label from 2018. The 2017 Aromes de Pavie has a deep garnet color and it shoots from the glass with powerful scents of wild blueberries, black raspberries, and fresh juicy plums, leading to notions of espresso, licorice, Chinese five spice, and rose oil. The full-bodied palate is amazingly silky with bright, energetic black fruits and a lively backbone, finishing long and minerally.

The 2017 Arômes de Pavie is just gorgeous. Pliant and supple, with terrific fruit purity, the 2017 is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet red cherry and plum, mocha, wild flowers, rose petal and cinnamon add layers of nuance, but more than anything else the 2017 is a wine to drink for its joyous fruit and super-inviting personality.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
